I scientifically analysed the daylight levels inside a room in my house versus outside in my garden... at the exact same time!

The results were SHOCKING!
Now, I don't want to bore you with all the technical science terms, but I just need you to understand that the low number in the bottom grey square (559) represents the power of the sunlight inside my lounge window indoor and the MASSIVELY higher number in the box above it (79247) represents the power of the natural light outside my lounge in my garden. These were measurements I took using my light meter.

Why is this important for you to know...?

Well, let me give you an example... have you ever come off a flight and been 'jet-lagged'...?

You may just think it's because of 'the time difference'.. that's of course true...

However, have you ever considered why that happens? What's the 'real' reason behind this tiredness, and lack of energy feeling at the wrong times of the day?

Let me explain to you about two chemicals in your body...

Cortisol vs Melatonin

Don't worry, I don't want to overwhelm you with neuroscience jargon, my goal is to simply show you the effects of it.
Smart Tip #1 - A Ray Of Sunshine Equals Better Sleep! (Say What..?!?)
So you see... the image above represents these two chemicals in our bodies that work together in beautiful harmony to keep us awake (Cortisol) and send us to sleep (Melatonin) at the right time each day of our life...

Cortisol is often referred to as our "stress chemical" because it's harmful when it's continuously flowing through our body at high levels due to our workload or worries. However, we actually need cortisol to be alert and awake. It rises towards the end of our sleep and HELPS us wake up. 

And in the evening, your body NEEDS to switch gears and recognise that it's 'night time' by lowering Cortisol levels and increasing our sleep chemical called Melatonin.

The Neuroscience 'jargon' behind it (In case you're interested!)

A small group of neurons (cells in your brain) NEED to receive BRIGHT natural daylight in order to put a brake on the release of Melatonin. This is what sets our in-built Circadian sleep timer so we enter sleep mode approx 12-14 hours after first seeing daylight. Those neurons are connected to the back of your eyes so they are able to detect sunlight. So, for example, if you pop outside at 7am you should begin to feel ready for bed at approx 9pm. This is the ancient system that has evolved when we lived outdoors hundreds of thousands of years ago. It's regulated by sunlight.

Make This SMART Change...

By incorporating this simple SMART HABIT of stepping outside for a few minutes to get real daylight in the morning.. even if it's just a few minutes of your time.. you WILL see the effects of better sleep.

I know this might sound hard to believe but it's a proven scientific fact...it might seem weird that your morning daylight exposure would affect your sleep! But, it does! Remember though, standing inside your window does not expose you to light that is bright enough to trigger this system. You must go OUTSIDE to trigger this ancient brain circuit. (Also please do not look directly at the sun because that is very damaging to your eyes. Simply being outside is enough).

I was stunned at this discovery too... and the more research I did...

... The more tests I ran ...
